Who requires this qualification?

The Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor Private Security Industry (Top-Up) is for learners who currently hold a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a door supervisor and need to be brought up to date with the new licence-linked qualifications requirements.

Who can do this course?

  • Anyone over the age of 18.
  • Can be done 4 months prior to existing SIA badge expiring
  • Must be done maximum one year after badge expired.    

Candidates are Required to Provide:

  • 2 photographic identity documents; at least 1 document must show your current address and at least 1 document must show your date of birth; OR
  • 1 photographic identity document and 2 documents with their current address on it.

Please note that proof of address cannot be older than three months.


Common Forms of Identity Documents:

Signed valid passport of any nationality.

Driving licence photo card.

UK birth certificate.

UK biometric residence permit.

Valid EU photo ID card.

Current bank or building society statement.

Utility bill (gas, electric, telephone, water, satellite, cable).

Letter from H.M Revenue & Customs or local authority.

Current credit card statement.

This is a two-day course with a mandatory pre-course workbook to be completed before you attend your training.

All learners must complete the online ACT Awareness and ACT Security e-learning courses and provide certificates for these before you attend your training.

On the final day of your course, there will be 3 multiple-choice exams and a practical assessment.

On successful completion of the course, you will receive:

  • Highfield Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Top Up)

How to get your Door Supervisor Licence

Getting your SIA Door Supervisor Licence may seem complicated, but it’s actually quite easy! All you need to do is follow the simple steps:

Pass the Door Supervisor Course

The Door Supervisor Course takes 6 days to complete. The training course is assessed by 4 multiple choice exams and practical assessments.

Complete the licence application on the SIA website

The cost of starting a licence application is £184.00 The SIA will get back to you within 25 working days. In rare cases, this can take up to 6 weeks.

Complete identity checks

You will need to verify your identity to satisfy parts of your SIA application, namely your photo ID. The easiest way to do this is at the Post Office. You can also have someone with a British passport, who is not related to you, to sign the back of your photo ID.

Submit application to the SIA 

The SIA will verify your identity and run a background check on your criminal record. If you have lived abroad for 6 months or more, you may be required to provide some supporting evidence.

Receive your licence in the post

  • You are licensed! Your SIA Door Supervisor Licence is valid for 3 years.

SIA have produced new videos that provide helpful guidance to licence applicants and licence holders in a visual and easy-to-understand format.

These include 5 videos providing walk-throughs of our licensing process:

  • Registering for a personal SIA online account
  • Submitting an online SIA licence application form
  • A guide to the stages of your SIA licence application
  • Linking your personal SIA online account with a business account
  • Requesting a replacement SIA licence card

And 3 videos providing helpful guidance on renewing a licence in the sectors with new training requirements:

  • Renewing your door supervision licence
  • Renewing your security guarding licence
  • Renewing your close protection licence

SIA official YouTube channel also features videos on other topics such as safer restraint and helping people in vulnerable situations.
