Course Description

The Pearson Level 5 HND qualification is a UK accredited course which is internationally recognised.

The HND is a modular Business programme equivalent to the first two years of a degree and with one year of extra study at a UK University it can become a BA Honours Degree.

This qualification is foundation course, aimed at students who would like a good knowledge of all Business Management aspects.

As the HND is part of the Qualifications and Framework (RQF) it has transferable credits of a minimum of 240.

The HND in Business and Human Resources has 15 units.

Course Structure

Entry Requirement

Applicants should be a minimum of 18 years and hold one of the following qualifications:

  • BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Business & Finance
  • NVQ Level 3 Business or related subject
  • ‘A’ Level minimum grades of DD
  • You should also have GCSE maths and English grade A*-C or equivalent.

Applicants will also complete diagnostic and free writing assessments as well as interview with the course tutor. This will enable the college to assess the level of support that a student may require with their programme of study.

Mature Applicants

We are committed to improving access to education for those without formal qualifications. We will consider applicants who can show evidence of experiential learning that is equivalent to the required formal qualifications. However you must have good writing skills with good spoken English

If you have been out of education for a few years but have relevant vocational experience in business, marketing, human resources, law or finance, accreditation of prior experience will be considered as an alternative entry requirement.

Delivery

You are required to attend one full day of study per week. The days of study vary and can be discussed during the application process.

It is also delivered via an online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) called Moodle

Your skills and understanding of processes will be developed through a planned series of assignments and practical skill based activities. You will participate in, and contribute to, peer group critique, portfolio reviews and group work. The underpinning knowledge and understanding of business will be developed through formal teaching sessions and seminars.

Assessment

The standard of your work will be assessed through a completion of written assignments and a portfolio of work. Each assignment will have clear learning outcomes and guidance on what you need to do to be successful. The achievement of learning outcomes will contribute to your success in one or more units of study. Once all learning outcomes have been completed your achievement will be graded.

Self-study is vital to your success on this course and lecturers will give you guidance on how best to approach this throughout the study period.

What could this qualification lead to?

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma is recognised by Higher Education providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant business-related courses, for example:

  • BA (Hons) Business Management
  • BA and BSc (Hons) in Business Studies
  • BSc (Hons) in International Management.

The skills offered as part of the Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma can provide graduates with the opportunity to work in many different areas of the business sector. Some examples of job roles this qualification could lead to: Chartered Accountant, Business Manager, Human Resources Manager, Service Delivery Manager, Company Secretary, General Manager etc.

Fee and Funding

All our courses cost £6165 per academic year for UK and EU students

Tuition Fee Loans

UK and EU students can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England. A tuition fee loan will cover the cost of your tuition fees, so you will not have to pay your tuition fees up-front. You will have to start repaying your tuition fee loan until the April after you graduate and are earning at least £25,000 a year. Income-related payments will be deducted automatically from your pay through the tax system (at a manageable rate of 9% of income above £25,000). The Tuition Fee Loan is paid directly to the college.
